Christ is Depending on You (Maundy Thursday)

Many are the times that church folk [pilgrim disciples like you and me] tell Jesus that they are depending on him. Perhaps it brings to us a certain degree of comfort to know that we can depend on Jesus. Jesus is always there providing comfort and guidance, healing and support.

Maundy Thursday reminds us in a vivid way that Jesus is depending on us, each one of us pilgrim disciples. Maundy Thursday was that time during the last days of Jesus’ life that he instituted the Lord’s Supper. It was a special time in the life of Jesus and his disciples.

Jesus invited his disciples to sit at the table with him. On the night before his death, he surrounded himself with his closest friends. He broke bread with them, and he drank from the cup with them.

Jesus said: Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.

Jesus also said: Drink from this, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins.

When we eat the bread and drink the cup, we are reminded of Christ. We are reminded of our Christian discipleship in Christ which is to support the ministry of Christ through our prayers, our presence, our gifts, our service and our witness.

Christ is depending on us to be faithful, and in our faithfulness, Christ wants us to make disciples of Jesus Christ.

Think about it!
