Christ is Risen!

He is risen indeed!

When the women encountered the empty tomb on Easter Sunday morning, they received a stimulus that they had not anticipated – the power of an empty tomb and a Risen Savior.

As the women made their way to the place where Jesus was buried, they were concerned about how they would be able to gain entrance into the tomb. How would they be able to roll away the rock used to seal the tomb? Nevertheless, they did not refrain from going to the tomb in spite of their worries. They no doubt were dealing with a variety of emotions – fear, doubt, anxiety, pain and sorrow, abandonment and loneliness.

We worry about many things in life, and there are times when we are paralyzed by our abiding concerns. We should never be deterred, however, by life’s vicissitudes; nevertheless, we do worry.

Not only did the women find an open tomb, they entered an empty tomb. They were slow in comprehending the reality that their friend, Jesus, was no longer there. God had raised the Son from death to life – resurrection power.

It was Mary Magdalene who left and found the disciples and announced to them: “I have seen the Lord” [John 20:18]. After Jesus appeared to Mary Magdalene, she no doubt was able to wipe away her tears, and replace her fear and anxiety with hope and joy.

In due time, the disciples were able to believe as Mary Magdalene did after encountering the Risen Lord. The disciples, including Thomas, were transformed into Easter people who were able to raise their voices and proclaim the name of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior on the Day of Pentecost.

As we celebrate the Easter Event, we have received a fresh breath of God’s Resurrection Power that provides for us a new spiritual stimulus. It is my prayer that God will resurrect our hearts and our spirit. So be it.
