Lord, Teach Us How to Wait

Gracious God, it is Friday, and we have been waiting since Monday to hear some signs of hope. We are hoping that the rescue teams will discover that the missing miners survived the explosion. We are looking for signs of life in the midst of death. We are praying for a miracle.

We remember the words of Isaiah who said, “but those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.” [Isaiah 40:31] Lord, teach us how to wait.

We have been waiting Lord. While we are waiting, it is comforting to know that Jesus is waiting with us. Please come near to us, and tarry with us while we wait. Continue to cradle the rescue workers in the hands of your care. The days are long, and the nights are lonely and silent.

In the midst of our waiting, we have not forgotten the words of the psalmist who said: “O Lord, in the morning you hear my voice; in the morning I plead my case to you, and watch.” [Psalm5:3] Lord, teach us how to wait.

Lord, teach us how to wait, because we are filled with fear and distress. We grieve with those who already have buried their loved ones. We are anxious.

Lord, teach us how to wait! Amen.
